
Today our female entrepreneur is Lucinda Beaty of Lucinda’s Hair, a beauty salon that specializes in assisting people suffering from natural and medical hair loss including chemotherapy. Lucinda’s Hair helps supply people with the correct information needed to get reimbursement from their insurance for medically diagnosed hair loss. Read on to learn more about Lucinda’s story.
1. What does your company do and why did you start it?
Lucinda’s Hair & Boutique specializes in medical and natural hair loss. We provide products and services for those with female & male pattern baldness, Alopecia,Trichotillomania, those undergoing chemotherapy and anyone who has any form of hair thinning or hair loss. We are Board certified accredited facility and a Medicare provider. Lucinda’s is a one stop shop for people who have been diagnosed with breast cancer. We have three certified fitters available for post mastectomy garments. Our Boutique has a large variety of inventory for our customers’ needs which includes wigs, hair additions, extensions, hair loss products, laser machine, scalp analysis, turbans and skin care.
I started my company as a cosmetologist and elevated to hair replacement specialist with a vision for a one stop shop for all our customer’s needs.
We are green company, we use only Sulfate and gluten-free products, water filtering system, no ammonia is in our color. We recycle here to save the environment. We care.
2. Like all female business owners, you seem to be doing a lot all at once, how do you handle it?
I delegate responsibilities and task as much as possible. I try to keep everything in balance. I am a visionary and have specific goals. I am very active with high energy and enjoy keeping fit.
3. What advice would you give other woman who wants to start their own business?
I would investigate all resources banks, SBA, network with the Chamber, keep your eyes wide open and be focused. Make sure you research your location of your new business; it is the key to your success. You have to recognize opportunity and be able to take a risk when it is in front of you.
4. What is the biggest struggle/setback and how did you overcome it?
My struggle was to build my client base to support the financial backing for this business.
I took the steps necessary to educate myself and get the necessary degree and accreditation to take my business to the next level to incorporate all my services and products.
I started marketing myself by partnering with doctors and facilities with a goal to succeed.
5. What’s the one big thing you want to tell us about the future of your company?
I would like to have a second location to expand and have more services such as holistic services. I would like to have massage ( Reiki), skin care, permanent makeup and cosmetics, nutritional products.
